Which services do you provide?
I provide professional translation, proofreading, revision, and localization services to businesses and organizations.

What are your working languages?
I translate from English and French into Dutch, my native language. I am familiar with the British and American standards of English as well as the Belgian and metropolitan varieties of French.
Dutch or Flemish?
Both, depending on how you look at it. While I consider my native language to be just “Dutch”, the variety I grew up with is Belgian Dutch.
This variety is sometimes referred to as “Flemish” to distinguish the Belgian variety from the one used in the Netherlands or to refer to various dialects used in Flanders. This is somewhat analogous to American and British English.
Whether you are looking for a general Dutch translation or specifically want a translation targeting the Belgian market, I can help!
Contact me if you have any further questions on this issue.
Do you provide interpreting services?
An interpreter deals with the spoken word whereas a translator works with the written word. Since I provide written translations, I do not provide interpreting.
Do you provide subtitling?
I am familiar with subtitling and can certainly translate your subtitles into Dutch or revise them. However, I currently do not provide subtitling or closed captioning as such.
Do you have any specializations?
I focus mainly on IT, technical translations, marketing, and travel. I am also comfortable translating non-fiction books or papers, though I review this on a case-by-case basis.

Where are you based?
I live in West Flanders, Belgium at only a stone’s throw away from the French border. I have worked in France and across Belgium.
Which CAT tools do you use?
I mainly use Wordfast Pro as well as SDL Trados. For localization, I use Poedit and Transifex, depending on the project’s requirements. I also use various tools such as Perl and Emacs for text manipulation, e.g. using regular expressions.
Do you hold a translation degree?
Yes, I do. In early 2012, I obtained an undergraduate degree (known in Belgium as a professional Bachelor’s) in Business Translation from Howest, a university college in Belgium.
Have you previously worked in the language industry?
Yes, I have experience working as an in-house translator and have also worked as an account manager for a language service provider. Virtually all of my business roles have been B2B oriented and involved using various languages, usually Dutch, French, and English.
Do not hesitate to contact me to receive my resume.
Are you a sworn translator?
I’m not a sworn translator. Although familiar with legal terminology, it is not my area of expertise. For this reason I do not provide legal translations.
How much does it cost?
Prices are typically calculated based on total word count. Rates may vary depending on the scope of the project, its urgency, and the degree of specialization or research required. In some cases, an hourly rate may be preferred.

Do you use Machine Translation?
No. Although machine translation can be useful in specific cases and for informal use, the engines tend to require fine-tuning and the output still requires post-editing. I prefer to translate the source text myself, building translation memories for recurring terminology. This also explains why I specialize in some areas but not in others. Language being a human ability that continuously evolves and is intimately tied to cultures and societies, “human” translators remain indispensable.
Are my files stored securely?
Your files are sent securely over SSL and are stored on an encrypted drive. They will never be shared with any third parties. I do not share files or store copies in the cloud, unless you specifically ask me to use a cloud service or a cloud-based platform.
If you have any specific concerns or requirements regarding security and confidentiality, please contact me so we can discuss these matters in more detail.
